Jim Browns loses chutes at NMRA/NMCA Superbowl!

  Just a week earlier Top Alcohol dragster racer Mark Niver was involved in a fatal incident today when his dragster lost its chutes and crashed in the shutdown area during eliminations at the NHRA Northwest Nationals at Pacific Raceways.  Thats why when Jim Brown driving his Pro Outlaw 10.5W nitrous injected big block Mustang with 3 stages dumped his laundy all over the track, we were all on our feet hoping Jim could get his car stopped in time before the sand pit.  With Jim being calm cool and collective all the time, he gives us the run down on what it's like when you can't slow down!

 

Go thru the whole run and tell us what happened.

  We had to pedal the car early and were able to get back in it.  We went 195mph out the back end and pulled the chutes and there was nothing there it broke all the frame work off the car.  Just ripped it out the back of the frame.

You go out there win your round and you have a routine you start after you lift. What went thru your mind when you realized the chutes didn't pop?

Normally with my car I pull the chutes, click the ignition off, and wait for the chutes to blossom before we ever get on the brakes.  Well theres that split second where you go "uh oh" they didn't open!  Fortunately the track here has a long shut down and it gave me plenty of room to get the thing stopped. My lucky day!

This just happened to a driver last week at the NHRA what feeling did you get, did you get a little  nervous?

You kind of have to stay a little bit calm. Obviously most people don't think anything bad is going to happen to them.  It is a dangerous sport, 200mph is fast.  But no I wouldn't say there was any panic because I got it slowed down enough, I never felt like I wasn't going to get it stopped.  There wasn't alot of panic, had it been a shorter shutdown their probaly would have been panic.

Is it fixable will you be out tomorrow?

Oh ya!  It will be fixed before it goes in the trailer tonight.  See if we can give Conrad Scarry a run for their money tomorrow, make a nice race!

Milan Dragway FRN will be at Milan Dragway July 31 for Ford Super Fest! All Ford powered or bodied car are welcome to this event.  There will be dragracing, car show and a swapmeet.  All this action packed into one day.  See you there!

Fords at the Summit

FRN will be at Summit Motorsport Park in Norwalk OH this weekend covering the event. This is going to be a great race at an awesome facility! 

  The event is open to any Ford, Mercury, Lincoln products. There will be a midway, car show, swap meet and of course drag racing.  You get all of this for a $20 weekend pass or $10 a day! 
 
5th Annual Nitto Tire NMRA/NMCA July 15-18

NMRA NMCA Super BowlFRN will be heading to Route 66 Raceway in Joliet IL for the NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing!  This is where the winners from each class in the NMRA and the NMCA meet up in the Super Bowl to see which series is the top dog of drag racing.  Along with two events there will be a car show Saturday and Sunday and sure to attract some really nice cars.  So if your not doing anything this weekend grab the kids and go cruising to the track on Route 66, the only highway you can truly get your kicks on!
 
Pritchett Brothers at Milan!

Adem and Nate Pritchett

  Adam and Nate Pritchett hosted their Outlaw Drag Racing Series at Milan MI this past weekend.  You might remember them from the hit show Pinks and Pinks All Out where they sat in the tower and called the shots.  Billy Glidden was there with is old black Mustang GT.  It was just 6 days earlier that he wrecked his new Extreme 10.5 2011 Mustang bodied at the ADRL in Heartland Park Topeka Kansas.  Not one to sit a side and watch people race,  Billy Glidden showed just how good he really is by going to the finals in 10.5 Outlaw in such an out dated car.  We will have pictures of the event posted once we get back from Joliet.

Milan Dragway Heads Up Series #3!

Milan Dragway Heads Up SeriesFRN will be at Milan Dragway this coming friday for their Aeroquip Performance Products Heads Up Series!  This is a great local event with Bracket classes, OC, N/A, drag radial, 10.5W and Run what you Brung.  This event always brings the crowd to their feet!  Look for the pictures to be up soon after the event!

Canadian Street Car Nationals!

FRN will be in Canada covering The Canadian Street Car Nationals at the Toronto Motorsport Park!  This event is run by legendary Pro 5.0 driver Joe DaSilva!  Aways a good time, with fast cars and alot of CASH up for grabs in all classes!

2010 NMRA Milan MI FRN will be attending the 4th event of the NMRA at Milan MI. June 11,12.  Will Jason Lee break his record again, 3 events in a row? Catch all the drama and excitement on FRN as the event unfolds!

Friday Update!  The rain fell for about 20min and it was clear skies for the rest of the day.  The qualifying round was action packed.  Mike Murrillo went sideways and brushed the wall with his bull horn and Conrad Scarry got way out of the grove on his second qualifier and spun a turbo out of his big block twin turbo Pro Outlaw 10.5 Car. Conrad's crew had it up and running with a new turbo before they put it in the trailer for the night.

10th Annual NMRA Ford Nationals!

NMRA AtcoFRN will be in Atco New Jersey May 14-16 for the 3rd event of the season!

The third Nmra event of 2010 has come to an end.  It was an exciting event starting with a violent storm Friday night, that left left many racers with damaged goods.  Chris Tuten burned an exhaust valve seat out of his motor in the test pass and ran all weekend on 7 cyl.  Jason Lee smashed his record not once but twice in Drag Radial.  Atco Raceway's on site bar the Winner's Circle lounge was thoroughly enjoyed by all until closing everynight.  The Leslie beach wedding Saturday morning had some teams racing back to the track for 3rd qualifier.   We have an interview with John Leslie Jr., the heavy hitter in factory stock tells us what it takes to be competitive in the heads up class.  We also talk to returning Mustang racing icon Chip Havemann about why he left and is now back in the game.  Stay tuned to FRN for the month of May as theses articles and a feature on Brian Tuten's all new Drag Radial car, unfold.
